The Online Rebuy Poker Tourney Strategy

One of the easiest ways to get an edge playing online poker is to play in rebuy tournaments. The reason you have an edge in this type of tourney is because a lot of people enter these things without the intention of rebuying. I can not imagine why they do this; maybe they think they are getting some kind of benefit by taking a shot with only one buy-in.  They are not, but the fact that so many players apparently come unprepared creates a juicy overlay for those that do.
 
Typically around 20% of the starting field will be eliminated by the time the rebuy period is over.  This is akin to entering a poker tournament where the house adds 10% or more to the prize pool.  Now throw in the fact that most online poker tournaments are full of clueless players who do not know the first thing about proper poker tournament strategy, and you have one of the juiciest propositions in online poker.
 
Most rebuy poker tournaments allow unlimited buy-ins during the first hour, including an extra buy-in right at the start if you so desire.  If this is allowed I recommend making the immediate rebuy right at the start and simply going away for the first hour, not playing a hand, and coming back at the end and making the add-on buy.  So that is three buy-ins for every rebuy poker tournament that you decide to play in.
 
Of course, you could go ahead and play from your first buy-in and see how it goes.  If it is your lucky day you might be able to triple your stack or more and not even need to make a rebuy at all.  However, at other times, you may end up making 4 or 5 buy-ins doing this.  Overall you should end up making 3 buy-ins total on average and so I just prefer to make the 3 buy-ins and start playing when the rebuy period is over.  Your stack will be about average, maybe slightly under, when play starts after the final add-on break.
 
Then it is just a matter of playing good poker and applying proper poker tournament strategy.  You will make your share of in the money finishes and final tables, and will see a good return on your investment overall. Thank all those nuts who were not even in the poker tournament when the real action started for your success.
